Cinema italiano Masterclass: A Journey Through Language, Film, and Culture is a short-course designed for intermediate and upper-intermediate students of Italian.

This course is designed for students who want to expand their knowledge of Italian cinema while enhancing their speaking, reading, and listening skills through discussions based on selected film scenes.

Each lesson will feature a different Italian film, allowing students to deepen their understanding of the Italian language and culture. By watching selected scenes from each film and analysing key moments, students will also develop a critical perspective on popular culture within Italian society

The course follows a communicative approach, where all four skills—speaking, reading, listening, and writing—will be practised, with a special focus on speaking.

Additionally, students will receive guidance for self-study and have the option to complete homework tasks.

  •   We watch one movie per lesson, –though not the whole film, just selected scenes—which we then discuss and analyze in class.
  •  Films will be shown in their original version with Italian subtitles.
  •  Before each lesson, you will receive a personalised PDF guide with custom-made activities to prepare you for the film scenes.

 During the Lesson

  •  Introduction to film terminology and useful vocabulary for discussing cinema.
  • Watching 3 to 4 selected scenes from the film (30-40 minutes in total).
  • Group discussions and analyses of the film, including interesting anecdotes about the film and its actors.

After each lesson, you will receive supplementary materials for independent study. Each lesson lasts 2 hours, with additional content created by the teacher for self study activities.
